Chlorinated Alkanes: of great use for platics fire safety

Mid -chain paraffins (and their long-chain brothers): appreciated plasticizers and flame-retardants for plastics

Chlorinated alkanes (also called chlorinated paraffins) are molecules built of carbon, hydrogen and chlorine atoms. They come in three versions: short chain, mid-chain and long-chain. The short-chain molecules have been abandoned from a health point of view.

But their mid-chain and long-chain brothers offer great services for platicizing plactics like PVC and enhancing their fire-resistant capacities. Roger Mottram (INEOS ChlorVinyls) presents these molecules in a short video.
